Pierpaoli National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland, United States SYNOPSIS: We present a method for removing artifacts related to patient motion and eddy-current induced image distortions in DW-MRI. The images are corrected for motion and distortion simultaneously using a well-established registration technique. Subject motion is modeled using a 3D rigid body transformation while image distortion is modeled using a general solution for eddy-current induced fields inside the magnet. The DW-MRI dataset can at the same time be rigidly aligned to a standard template. Thus our robust postprocessing method can be used to simultaneously remove motion and distortion related artifacts as well as to position the dataset in a standardized orientation.

Comprehensive approach for correction of motion and distortion in diffusion-weighted MRI.

Patient motion and image distortion induced by eddy currents cause artifacts in maps of diffusion parameters computed from diffusion-weighted (DW) images. A novel and comprehensive approach to correct for spatial misalignment of DW imaging (DWI) volumes acquired with different strengths and orientations of the diffusion sensitizing gradients is presented. This approach uses a mutual information...

Dynamic Contrast Magnetic Resonance Imaging (DCE-MRI) and Diffusion Weighted MR Imaging (DWI) for Differentiation between Benign and Malignant Salivary Gland Tumors

Background: Salivary gland tumors form nearly 3% of head and neck tumors. Due to their large histological variety and vicinity to facial nerves, pre-operative diagnosis and differentiation of benign and malignant parotid tumors are a major challenge for radiologists. Objective: The majority of these tumors are benign; however, sometimes they tend to transform into a malignant form. Functional M...

DR-BUDDI (Diffeomorphic Registration for Blip-Up blip-Down Diffusion Imaging) method for correcting echo planar imaging distortions

We propose an echo planar imaging (EPI) distortion correction method (DR-BUDDI), specialized for diffusion MRI, which uses data acquired twice with reversed phase encoding directions, often referred to as blip-up blip-down acquisitions. DR-BUDDI can incorporate information from an undistorted structural MRI and also use diffusion-weighted images (DWI) to guide the registration, improving the qu...

بررسی ارزش Diffusion Weighted Imaging در تصاویر MRI برای تشخیص سرطان پروستات

Background: Prostate cancer is the third leading cause of death and is the most common cause of cancer in elderly men. Regarding to the low accuracy of screening methods such as prostate-specific antigen (PSA), Digital Rectal Examination (DRE) and trans rectal ultrasound (TRUS) in detection and localization of tumor, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Diffusion Weighted Imaging (DWI) attracte...

An Improved Motion Vector Estimation Approach for Video Error Concealment Based on the Video Scene Analysis

In order to enhance the accuracy of the motion vector (MV) estimation and also reduce the error propagation issue during the estimation, in this paper, a new adaptive error concealment (EC) approach is proposed based on the information extracted from the video scene. In this regard, the motion information of the video scene around the degraded MB is first analyzed to estimate the motion type of...
